Academic Eligibility
Participation in ETHS Athletics requires students to meet academic eligibility standards. These expectations ensure that students are making progress in their classes while participating in school-sponsored sports. Academic eligibility isn't just a requirement; it's a way to stay focused, motivated, and balanced throughout the season.
Eligibility is determined by both Board Policy and IHSA guidelines, with regular grade checks during the season and semester requirements across the school year. Student-athletes are expected to maintain their academic standing and seek support when needed to remain eligible for competition.
Meeting eligibility standards means students are staying engaged in their learning while participating in sports they care about. For many student-athletes, the structure and accountability of team participation supports strong academic habits and overall growth.
What Does It Mean to Be Ineligible?
Students must be passing at least 5 classes on the weekly grade check to stay eligible.
If a student is ineligible, they:
-
Cannot compete in games, meets, matches, or tournaments
-
Cannot wear a team uniform or represent ETHS at events
Ineligible students are required to attend the Homework Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:45–5:00 pm. At the end of each session, they will receive a blue pass from the supervisor before heading to practice or games.

Getting Back on Track
We know that being ruled ineligible can feel like a setback—but you're not alone. Many student-athletes face academic challenges at some point, and what matters most is how you respond. It’s an opportunity to reset and refocus. Our goal is to help you stay connected to your team and focused on your progress as you work to regain eligibility.
Academic ineligibility is temporary, and there’s a clear path to getting back on track. ETHS offers structured support to help you meet eligibility requirements while staying connected to your team.
